Two-Component (2K) Injection Moulding for Medical Components

Expanded manufacturing capabilities at A. Hopf.

To further strengthen its manufacturing capabilities for medical plastic components, A. Hopf, part of the Promepla Group, has commissioned a new two-component (2K) injection moulding machine.

   

Two-component injection moulding enables the combination of two thermoplastic materials or colours within a single, fully integrated moulding process. This technology is particularly suitable for medical component applications requiring different material properties within one part, such as the integration of soft sealing elements with rigid structural components (for example, TPE [thermoplastic elastomers] combined with PP [polypropylene]).

• Direct bonding of materials during moulding, without the use of solvents or mechanical fastening
• Elimination of secondary assembly operations, helping to simplify manufacturing workflows
• Design flexibility, allowing the integration of different material properties or colour differentiation within a single component

Two-component injection moulding is commonly used for medical components such as:

• Closure caps, housings and containers requiring integrated sealing functions
• Components with precisely integrated seals or membranes
